The Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) is once again committed to science in audio with the renewal of its two outreach podcasts. Two in-house productions that answer scientific questions and generate new ones for its audience.
As a novelty this year, and coinciding with its third season, ‘La Mare de la Ciència‘ will release a new format more similar to its sister podcast ‘Absolutos y Relativos’. Through a more journalistic format with interviews, its new presenter, the biologist and science communicator Maruxa Martínez-Campos, will bring us closer to the research of the centers of the Park and the day to day life of its researchers.
Each of these PRBB productions introduces the listener to the science that is taking place at the park. These relaxed conversations of about 30 minutes allow you to discover the voices of the protagonists of science: senior researchers, doctoral students or technical staff alike.
From September 12, every Tuesday and Thursday, a new episode of the second season of the podcast ‘Absolutos y relativos‘ will be released. And ‘La Mare de la Ciència‘ will be available, also on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from October 24.
‘Absolutos y Relativos’, season 2
Luca T. Barone, science journalist, will join us again in the second season of the Spanish podcast, which will feature the testimony of:
- Roberto Elosua, coordinator of the Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Genetics group at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, who will talk about the risk factors that increase the possibility of suffering a cardiovascular event (Première on 12/09/23).
- Michelle Leger, postdoctoral researcher at the Multicellgenome Lab of the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE, CSIC-UPF), will explain how by studying the simplest beings, the protists, we can understand how the multicellularity of the most complex organisms came to be (Première on 09/14/23).
- Pablo Iáñez, PhD student at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), will talk about how he works with Deep Learning to help research teams sort cells (Première on 09/19/23).
- Eva Maria Novoa, group leader in the Epitranscriptomics and RNA Dynamics Laboratory at the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG), will explain her work on how the events that occur in the life of a mouse can be reflected in its reproductive cells and transmitted to the following generations (Première on 09/21/23).
- Talya Dayton, group leader in the Tissue Biology and Disease Modeling Unit at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory – Barcelona (EMBL Barcelona), will present organoids, miniature versions of organs that her group uses to study the behavior of cells in stressful situations (Première on 09/26/23).
- Pilar Rivera, coordinator of the Integrative Biomedical Materials and Nanomedicine Lab research group of the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences from Pompeu Fabra University (MELIS-UPF), will present nanoparticles and explain the most advanced applications that her team is studying (Première on 09/28/23).
Third season of ‘La Mare de la Ciència’
After the success of the two previous seasons, the new format of ‘La Mare de la Ciència’, presented by Maruxa Martínez-Campos, will première on October 24 and will feature the participation of:
- Anna Bigas, coordinator of the Stem Cells and Cancer group at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, who will talk about what stem cells are and their relationship with cancer, as well as her work as an international grant reviewer (Première on 10/24/23).
- IBE PhD student Marc Palmada will talk about his experience at this stage of his scientific career, what comparative genomics means and how it can help biodiversity conservation (Première on 10/26/23).
- Berta Fusté will explain what a scientific-technical service is and how it works; specifically, the Genomics service of the CRG ,of which she has been the head for almost a year (Première on 10/31/23).
- Jorge Lázaro, PhD student at EMBL Barcelona, will take us into the world of developmental biology, through a curious zoo of stem cells (Première on 2/11/23).
- Mònica Guxens, researcher of ISGlobal’s Lifelong Environment and Health program, will talk about her research on the effects of environmental exposures on the development and growth of children (Première on 7/11/23).
- Oriol Gallego, head of the Structural Biology of Living Cells group at MELIS-UPF, will explain his research and how yeast beyond making bread and beer, it can help us understand how cellular traffic works (Première on 9/11/23).
You will find the episodes of the two science outreach pieces on Spreaker, Ivoox, Spotify (AyR, LMDLC), Apple Podcast (AyR, LMDLC), Google Podcast (AyR, LMDLC) and Amazon Music (AyR, LMDLC). We invite you to listen and share them!
