Today is the day

Guillermo Nevot, doctoral student in the translational synthetic biology laboratory directed by Marc Güell at the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences, Pompeu Fabra University (DCEXS-UPF), sends us this photo of his arrival at work in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB)) on any given morning.

The young researcher tells us what this photo inspires him: “As scientists we face constant failure: aborted experiments, wrong hypotheses… but we always try again. This picture reminds me of mornings in which you return to the lab eager to make everything work, no matter what failed before. In the end, we need just one successful experiment to find out something no one else observed before and, precisely, this possibility pumps this “today is the day” from our most inner self.

Guillermo’s PhD project is based on using genetic engineering to domesticate skin bacteria in order to create new diagnostic and therapy tools.
