Collaborative concert: “Bizet meets The Lion King”

Tour of the PRBB Choir and Orchestra to Santa Coloma de Gramenet

For the first time, the PRBB orchestra and choir have offered a joint concert outside the PRBB, for a broader audience. Together with the Cerdanyola Youth Orchestra, on Saturday July 1st, they filled the modern Can Roig i Torres Auditorium in Santa Coloma de Gramenet with classical and popular music. The mixed audience, including friends and families of the musicians as well as locals, enjoyed the best performance so far of the PRBB choir and Orchestra under the direction of Òscar Salvador (choir) and Borja Mascaró (the two orchestras).

The first, symphonic part, included four pieces from the Arlesienne Suites by Georges Bizet with interchanging melodic and dramatic elements, particularly challenging the wind instruments. The following Impromptu by Sibelius was played just by the strings, and then the choir joined in to perform songs from The Lion King, composed by Elton John. The excellent acoustics in the auditorium left the audience breathless, and some emotional tears were apparently shed.

The concert was a highly satisfying experience for the 56 amateur musicians, many of them scientists. It became a reality thanks to the support of the city of Santa Coloma de Gramenet. In acknowledgement, 20 free tickets were given to the local Germina Foundation.
