The IBE retreat

This week’s picture shows the 160 members of the Institute for Evolutionary Biology (IBE: CSIC-UPF) who gathered at the end of February in their biannual retreat at the Hotel Mas Solà in Santa Coloma de Farners.

The participants were members of the five research programmes at IBE – biodiversity, comparative and computational genomics, functional genomics and evolution, population genetics and complex systems – as well as some from the newly created Evolutionary Medical Genomics joint CRG-UPF-IBE program, which was presented at the event.

Following the predoc and postdoc short talks and poster presentations, the principal investigator Elena Casacuberta explained the Mentoring Program and how it can enhance the professional experience of both mentors and mentees. The IBE diversity committee was also introduced, and shared some of the actions directed to close the gender gap at the IBE through the new Diversity Plan. Another transversal topic was sustainability, with some of the ecological research challenges and insights shared by the IBE Sustainability Committee.

And of course, there was time for a bit of fun, too, with a Pub Quiz and a Music Session with an IBE resident DJ, among others.
