As well as being an artist, Salvador Dalí was committed to scientific thought and the pursuit of a new humanism. With this in mind, the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation launched the Platform Dalí, a programme that aims to foster dialogue between art and science by promoting discussions between artists and researchers. To this end, it collaborates with five research centres, including the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). And this July, it has launched a call for applications for artist residencies at research centres for the year 2027.
Under the theme “What is real?”, the Platform’s research and creation programme is launching an international call for applications to select five artists from any discipline to undertake a residency at one of the five collaborating scientific institutions: the PRBB, the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC-CNS), the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) and the Institute of High Energy Physics (IFAE). Within the PRBB, artists will be able to undertake their residency at any of the Park’s seven centres.
Participation in the programme
The eligibility criteria include demonstrating the project’s viability, an interest in the relationship between art and science, a Dalinian curiosity, and a commitment to the theme ‘What is real?’, amongst others. Artists may apply individually or as a collective, and prior experience in the field of research is not required.
The programme lasts 12 months and is structured in three phases: an introductory visit to familiarise participants with the institution (up to 3 days); a residency of up to 45 days to engage in dialogue with the scientific team at the chosen centre; and finally, a third phase lasting 10 months to develop the artwork.
Selected artists will receive an artist’s fee of €7.500 and a budget of up to €25.000 for the creation of the work, as well as curatorial support from Platform Dalí, amongst other benefits.
Applications must be submitted using the form available at calls.platformdali.org, which will remain open until 7 September 2026 at 23.59. Selected artists will be notified by November 2026 and may undertake their residency in one of two periods: February-April or September-November 2027.
