Eva M Novoa, ICREA researcher and head of the Epitranscriptomics and RNA Dynamics group at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), received the Premi Nacional de Recerca al Talent Jove 2024 (Catalan for National Research Award for Young Talent) which comes with a prize of 7500 euros, at the gala held on 17 June at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya. Her line of research focuses on the study of the role of RNA modifications in gene expression and their implications in diseases such as cancer, especially in its early detection.

Novoa shared the award with Xavier Ros Otón, a research mathematician at the University of Barcelona. The prize is awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació (FCRI). The prize-giving ceremony was attended by Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat, and Núria Montserrat, Catalan Minister for Research and Universities.

This is the 35th edition of the Premi Nacional de Recerca, which since 2011 includes the category for young talent, which Novoa has now won. It recognises the work and impact of Catalan researchers at the beginning of their research career.
