It is often said that “seeing is believing”, and in the case of science, seeing is also essential to understand. That is why microscopy plays a key role in research laboratories around the world.
Fortunatelly, this field has evolved since Zacharias Janssen’s first microscope, and with this progress, the ability to see things that are invisible to the human eye has reached amazing levels.
One example of this evolution is the Mesoscopic Imaging Facility from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory – Barcelona (EMBL Barcelona), responsible of the picture above, which provides 3D imaging of biological tissues at cellular resolution.
The technologies used at the MIF allow researchers to see large and complete samples such as mouse organs (a lung is seen in the image) or developing embryos, taking the microscopy game to a whole new level.
