A ‘science machine’ that never rests

The privilegies of working in front of the sea – and waking up early!

Albert Català (Spaces and Events at the PRBB) has sent us this amazing photo, taken from the Auditorium of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), in the wee hours of a normal working day.

As all research institutions around the world, the PRBB is open 24/7. Day or night, weekday or weekend, the ‘science machine’ never stops.

That means that, at any time you may find one of its 700 scientists busy analysing genomic sequences, running a DNA electrophoresis gel, creating phylogenetic trees, observing tiny bacteria, or revisiting surveys and patient databases; concentrated writing a scientific paper  – or dozing off while they wait for the next feeding time of their cell cultures at 3am!

Like the sea in front of the PRBB building, this scientific infrastructure may seem calm and quite – but beneath the surface, there is a whole world of activity going on to further our knowledge and improve our health!
