Meet the companies: the event to discover science in companies

On November 19th, the PRBB hosted more than a dozen companies to foster dialogue between residents and professionals and showcase the wide range of career options in science beyond academia.

Companies from the pharmaceutical sector, venture capital investment, communication, and international mobility were among the participants of the "Meet the companies" event at the PRBB.

On the afternoon of November 19th, the inner square of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) became the venue for Meet the companies, an event promoted by the Intervals program and the park’s centers. The activity was aimed at residents, whether they were job seekers or simply curious to learn about the work done by science-related companies. In an academic research environment, many are unaware of the wide range of career options in science beyond continuing research in academia and becoming a principal investigator.

The companies participating in this edition included:

  • Flomics, which detects diseases and develops personalized solutions through liquid biopsies. (See an article here about this PRBB-born company).
  • Genomcore, offering a platform to manage and interpret genetic and biomedical data focused on personalized and precision medicine.
  • Integra therapeutics, developing genetic writing tools to improve the efficiency and safety of advanced therapies. (See an article here about this PRBB-born company).
  • Invivo Partners, a venture capital firm investing in startups focused on advanced therapies, synthetic biology, and artificial intelligence.
  • Made of Genes, specializing in personalized health using AI to analyze genetic, blood, and epigenetic markers.
  • Teamit, driving health research through multisectoral alliances.
  • TPM Science, providing editing, consulting, and training services based on their expertise in the research world.
  • Ubik Media, a communication agency specializing in health, science, innovation, and technology.
  • Veristat, supporting clinical trials, consultancy, and strategic planning to accelerate the development and commercialization of new therapies.
  • Ysios Capital, a venture capital firm focused on companies developing products for unmet medical needs.
  • ZeNeuroid, focusing on in vitro brain models for neuroscience research and drug development.
  • Euraxess Catalonia, a European Union initiative supporting researchers in finding job opportunities, funding, and international mobility options.

The participating companies highly praised the event, highlighting its simple yet effective organization and format, which proved beneficial for both companies and attendees. With over 200 residents taking part over two hours, the event provided an excellent platform to introduce participants to new professional paths in science. By engaging in one-on-one conversations with representatives from various sectors, they learned about each business’s work, the profiles they seek, and the professional opportunities they offer. This was a day to reflect on the future and discover the many ways to pursue a career in science outside the academic world.
