We have already enjoyed five months of 2021 and it is time to analyze, with a little perspective and a lot of data, what 2020 brought to the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB).

Scientific Publications

It has been a good year for scientific production. We have 1,300 scientific publications with the participation of researchers from the centers, 8 of them in Nature, 9 in Science and 3 in The Lancet.

In 2020, more than 200 scientific conferences were held, most of them online, including 21 PRBB CRG Conferences and 9 Group Leader Seminars.

Infrastructures

The infrastructure area has taken advantage of the year with a long list of improvements in the building. From a new and expanded cryogenics room to a complete reform of the seminar rooms in the square. And finally we launched a new institutional website and organized our first ever virtual Open Day generating diverse content with more than 75,000 views!

Residents

Without great surprises, the Demographic Report of the PRBB shows the number of residents rise to 1,452, almost 100 more people than last year. 82% of the almost 1,500 residents work in the 3 large centers: CRG, IMIM and UPF (DCEXS + IBE), while ISGlobal and EMBL keep on growing.

The park’s research staff numbers 747 people: 273 PhD students, 290 postdoctoral students, and 184 principal investigators (PIs). The support staff is grouped in 462 technicians and 243 admin and support staff. And as every year, Italy wins (90) as the most represented country among international staff (26%).
