Healthy Week at the PRBB

In celebration of World Health Day, from 8 to 11 April, the Park hosted various sporting activities, talks and workshops aimed at promoting healthy habits and the wellbeing of the community.

The Zumba sessions in the inner square by Marítim by Claror brought together around 30 people.

Committed to the wellbeing and health of our community, and to celebrate World Health Day, which took place on 7 April, at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) we wanted to resume the Healthy Week. Between 8 and 11 April, 15 activities dedicated to physical and mental wellbeing, as well as the incorporation of healthy habits, were carried out. This initiative has been very well received, as nearly 240 places have been filled!

Sports activities

Thanks to the collaboration of the municipal sports centre Marítim by Claror we were able to enjoy activities of different intensities to activate the body: a 5km running session, a Nordic walking session to the Forum, Zumba, body balance or pilates. Or the sound baths, a relaxation session thanks to the vibrations of Tibetan gongs and bowls.

La ORG, the organisation of the beach volleyball championship, offered a masterclass – mainly for players of the league – to practice positions and roles on the court as well as some techniques and team plays. And there was also an open women’s boxing class, an activity that usually takes place on Wednesday afternoons at the PRBB. Also, the usual Tuesday and Thursday yoga sessions for residents were opened to the community and on Tuesday, taking advantage of a small pause in the rain, the class was moved to the beach.

In addition to all this sporting activity, two sessions of a workshop to work on health back posture were held on Thursday. Led by a physiotherapist, the activity allowed participants to discover exercises and postures to improve their postural health in their day-to-day work.

Healthy eating

To complement the physical and wellness activities, Álvaro Hernáez (Hospital del Mar Research Institute, CIBERCV) gave a talk entitled ‘Recent controversies in human nutrition… but the real ones’. In it, he refuted some of the recent beliefs and trends regarding healthy diets and food trends, such as the 100% carnivorous diet or the moderate consumption of alcohol to improve cardiovascular health. He also highlighted the importance and complexity of the design of clinical studies in nutrition.

Finally, to close the Healthy Week, Eurest chef Victor Galceran from LabCafè was in charge of the showcooking ‘Vegetable protein’. A live cooking demonstration to learn how to cook aubergines stuffed with texturised soya and blue cheese sauce. A simple and healthy delicacy that left speechless the audience, who once finished, could taste the plate (and even have seconds!).

The PRBB would like to thank Marítim by Claror and Eurest for their collaboration during the Healthy Week, as well as the more than 150 people who participated in the various activities!
