Microscopes, lab coats, research data, pipettes, computers, laboratories… in short: a lot of science to discover! All this awaits you on Saturday, October 5th at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). This year marks the 17th edition of the traditional Open day. From 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, you’ll find a ton of free activities for people of all ages taking place in various areas of the park.
One of the highlights are the guided tours, which offer the chance to see up close (or rather, from the inside!) what goes on in labs focused on neuropharmacology, clinical trials, bioinformatics, developmental biology, cancer research, synthetic biology, environmental pollution, and many more. Some tours will be available in English, and we’re introducing a new feature: 2 themed tours where you’ll accompany researchers through a fascinating project, from the beginning to the end! Guided tours are for ages 12 and up, and families with younger children can leave their youngest at the kids’ area, where the little ones can play and engage in scientific activities.
We recommend that everyone planning to visit book in advance on EventBrite, both for the guided tours and some pre-booked activities – registrations are open from today! However, on Saturday morning, there will also be spots available for tours and workshops on a first-come, first-served basis.
In the central square, you can enjoy outdoor science: a series of brief 10-15 minute talks where you’ll get firsthand insights into different research topics and projects happening at the park. There will also be free-access activities and workshops, such as measuring your cardiovascular health, learning how an animal facility operates, exploring the diversity of the scientific community, and even a few magic tricks! Also, don’t miss out on the bioinformatics, microscopy, and gene-editing workshops!
