The fifth edition of the PRBB Career Month, organised by the PRBB centres and the Intervals programme, takes place from June 2 to 30, 2026 in different spaces across the Park.
Throughout the month, PRBB residents will be able to attend practical sessions on building a narrative CV, seeking professional opportunities beyond academia, and identifying career paths that better match their skills. The programme also includes conversations on professional profiles such as lab managers and staff scientists, the impact of research beyond publications, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in science-related jobs.
Thinking about scientific careers beyond a linear path
For many people working in a research centre, thinking about the future of their career can be complex. Scientific careers are becoming increasingly less linear, and a PhD or postdoc can open many different doors. Opportunities range from academic research to project management, scientific platforms, industry, science communication, knowledge transfer and research impact.
The PRBB Career Month aims to offer a space to ask questions, discover options and gain practical tools to make more informed decisions. This new edition combines training sessions with interactive talks.
Three questions to start shaping your professional future
How can I better explain my career path?
The course Building your story: how to write a narrative scientific CV, which will take place on June 2, will focus on transforming a traditional CV into a professional narrative that better explains each person’s skills, experience and career path.
What options are there beyond academia?
From June 4, the course Job hunting in science. What lies beyond academia?, will address how to identify professional pathways in industry, adapt your CV and improve your professional visibility outside the academic environment.
Which opportunities best match my skills?
On June 26, the workshop Understanding career opportunities that best exploit your skillset will help people at early and intermediate career stages identify professional opportunities aligned with their skills, motivations and strengths.
Talks to discover other scientific profiles
In addition to the courses, the PRBB Career Month includes three interactive sessions in the Charles Darwin room, from 3 pm to 4.30 pm. Registration for the talks is mandatory through this form.
On June 11, Career experiences of lab managers and staff scientists will focus on two essential profiles for the functioning of research: lab managers and staff scientists. These roles combine scientific knowledge, coordination, technical support and project vision, and often follow pathways that differ from the classic academic career.
On June 22, Impact of research – beyond publications jobs will explore professions linked to research impact, a field that is becoming increasingly relevant for connecting scientific knowledge with society, public policy, innovation and decision-making.
On June 29, the session Will AI change your career? The impact of AI on science jobs will address one of today’s most pressing questions: how AI may transform science-related jobs and which skills may become more important in the coming years.
A chance to reflect on your next steps
The PRBB Career Month is an invitation to look at scientific careers more broadly: what I know how to do, what interests me, what kind of professional environment I am looking for, and how I can better explain the value of my experience.
In previous editions, El·lipse has spoken with professionals who have built diverse careers within the scientific ecosystem, from laboratory and research service management to academic coordination, project management and research impact. The PRBB Career Month 2026 is a good opportunity to discover them and read their stories:
- Àlex Robert Moreno (EMBL Barcelona): “I never work alone, you always need the collaboration of other people”
- Anna Solé Amat (CRG): “We are training the new scientific leaders”
- Ester Rodríguez: “Work is underway to professionalise the project management sector”
- Adelaida Sarukhan (ISGlobal): “The profession of impact is being built right now”
