A break at the PRBB

From time to time, the terraces of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) are not only a place for coffee, conversations and lab meetings, but also for unexpected visitors. In this photo of the week, a white wagtail (Motacilla alba) perches elegantly on a railing, as if it too were taking a break to contemplate the activity in the Park.

The white wagtail is a very common bird in our area, partially migratory and very accustomed to living alongside humans. Curious and restless, it is not unusual to see it walking among buildings, rooftops or paths, always with that nervous tail movement that makes it unmistakable.

The photograph was sent to us last spring by Alba Nieto Heredia, who was then doing her PhD at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE: CSIC-UPF), and it was Aris Dionel Jiménez, also a PhD student at the IBE, who identified the species. A small everyday scene that reminds us that, even between experiments and meetings, nature continues to find its place at the PRBB.
