‘Science With A View’ the English podcast from the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, has a very different format from its siblings ‘La Mare de la Ciència’ and ‘Absolutos y Relativos’. The open dialogue between the two guests and the complicity that develops between them allows us to delve into the research carried out at the PRBB centres in a very different way.
In addition, each episode deals with cross-cutting research topics, such as mentoring by supervisors, how to communicate research, and the pressure to remain in academia, among others. And we hear the residents’ opinions on these topics thanks to the ‘Voice of the PRBB’ section.
All this is hosted by Chris George (HMRIB), formerly a researcher and now a grant proposal developer, who always seeks out the right questions to explore the guests’ research to the fullest and generate interesting conversations.
In this show, we delve deeper into current scientific topics in a way that is more geared towards a specialised audience or those with a solid scientific background. Starting today, 6th November, and for the next five Thursdays, we will be releasing a new episode of SWAV season 2. Tune in to hear us explore the research field with the following episodes:
- “Starting out in cancer research”. With Heleen Jungen (EMBL Barcelona) and Júlia Urgel (CRG – MELIS-UPF), we will delve into the lives of PhD students and lung cancer research. We will talk to them and to the residents of the Parc to find out if they see themselves continuing in academia or taking their professional careers in a new direction. Now available on all platforms.
- “Can diet affect mental health?”. Camille Lassale (ISGlobal) and Gabriela Lugón (HMRIB) will share their research on the relationship between diet and mental health. And the community will answer the question ‘What does it take to climb the next step on the academic ladder?’. Available on 13/11/2025.
- “Mutations” with Marc de Manuel (IBE) and Donate Weghorn (CRG), to inquire into the world of genetic mutations. We will also talk about what is valued when it comes to advancing a scientific career. Available on 20/11/2025.
- “Inside Alzheimer’s research”. Oriol Grau-Rivera (FPM–BBRC-HMRIB) and Laura Forcano (HMRIB) will discuss the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s, including the effect that lifestyle has on the disease. To conclude the episode, the residents will explain what is important when communicating science. Available on 27/11/2025.
- “From academia to startups”. Kristina Haase (EMBL Barcelona) and Marc Talló (noctuRNA Therapeutics, a UPF startup) will explain their experience of making the transition from research to the industrial and business world. Together they will explore the importance of teamwork and team composition. Available on 04/12/2025.
