Tomorrow 3 April at 14:00 Collab-IA, the new collaborative seminar series on artificial intelligence, will be inaugurated. It is jointly organised by the functional AI unit (UF-IA) of the Hospital del Mar and MARData, and it promotes the participation of experts to explore cutting-edge methods of artificial intelligence in the field of biomedicine.
UF-IA is the new functional artificial intelligence unit at Hospital del Mar, which seeks to apply artificial intelligence to the medical care process rather than to research. On the other hand, MARData is the Hospital del Mar Research Institute‘s entity that encompasses the bioinformatics and biostatistics units and provides service to researchers in data science issues.
Rather than seminars, they will be hackathons that will bring together data scientists, artificial intelligence specialists, programmers and technical people, all from the medical field, to address the challenges of using AI in medicine in a practical way. They will be run by the participants themselves and coordinated by Jinjue Ji, data scientist at UF-IA. The challenges they will face will also be proposed by the participants, especially from the clinical environment.
We want to create a mapping of expertise and a space for joint work, collaboration and the creation of synergies in the field of artificial intelligence in applied medicine.
Marine Cléa Renard (UF-IA coordinator and promoter of the initiative)
The sessions will take place on the first Thursday of each month and will last around one hour. Each session will feature guest speakers who will give a brief presentation before taking on the proposed challenge. In this first session, Pablo Villoslada (Hospital del Mar Research Institute) and Peter Brosten (Eurecat, Technology Centre of Catalonia) will open the cycle with a round table. This will take place in the Ramón y Cajal room and there will be coffee available. It will be the starting signal for a discussion on what is expected from the cycle.
Participation in the seminar series is open to anybody and does not require registration. However, it is recommended that only people who program and have experience in artificial intelligence participate, as the sessions will be highly technical and not basic learning. All information about the series can be found on its website, collab-ia.org, which is currently under construction.
