What is cancer and how have treatments evolved? Chemotherapy has been for years the main treatment, but nowadays we have targeted therapies and immunotherapy. The latest treatment, immunotherapy, fights cancer by helping our own immune system get rid of the tumour cells.
Max Hardy-Werbin, a PhD student at the Molecular Cancer Therapeutics research group, leaded by Joan Albanell at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM), explained how immunotherapy works.
The talk given by the young researcher, with a duration of less than 10 minutes, was framed within the first edition of the Biennal Ciutat i Ciència, an initiative that offered, through February 2019, more than 70 free scientific outreach activities in many different institutions of Barcelona, such as the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB).
