At the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) we want to continue exploring the dialogue that poetry and science generate and that allows them to enrich each other. That is why, for the third consecutive year, we are organising the Rhyme your science competition. An opportunity to let your imagination run wild and find a new inspiring way to spread science.
To awaken their minds, Park residents will be able to attend the ‘Rhyme your science’ course organised by the PRBB Intervals programme. Led by physicist and poet Sam Illingworth, the course will help participants use poetry to connect with their research and their own diversity. You can register here.
Rules
This year, the competition will be open throughout April and will take place on the Bluesky social network, where the PRBB started its activity earlier this year. The rules for participation are as follows:
- Any person (with both scientific and non-scientific background) from 13 years of age, inclusive, may participate.
- Participants may publish as many poems as they wish.
- All types of poems are accepted (haikus, nonettos or longer poems, which can be published as an image or in a thread of several publications).
- The poems must be published in Bluesky, and can be in Catalan, Spanish or English.
- Posts or threads must use #RhymeScience and mention the @prbb.org account.
- Only users who follow the @prbb.org account will be eligible for the prize. For private accounts, please contact us so we can see your poem.
- Poems can be submitted from 00:00 on 1 April until 23:59 on 30 April.
- The winning poem will be chosen by the organisation among the 5 poems with the most likes. In the case of poems written in more than one publication, only the likes of the first publication of the thread will be counted.
- The winning poem will be announced on 6 May via Bluesky.
- The winner will be contacted via Bluesky.
- The prize will consist of poetry and science books, as well as a personalised visit to the PRBB.
- All entries will be held by the PRBB and may be used in either print or digital format. The use of the works will be on a non-profit basis and the authors of the selected stories will always be cited.
