This 2019, and for the first time, the Pompeu Fabra University’s Technical Office for Occupational Risk Prevention has established awards to recognize academic works, initiatives and good practices that contribute to the effective implementation of the prevention of occupational risks and the promotion of health in the university environment.

The campaign “Prevention is everyone’s business, start with yourself!” of the Biomedical Research Park of Barcelona (PRBB) has been recognized in these awards.

“I am very happy with the results of the event. The UPF institutional representatives exposed very nicely the fundamental points of our preventive management system. Without them and without the rest of the collaborating team, this event would not have been possible”
Sergi Jarque
Responsible for the Technical Office for Occupational Risk Prevention (UPF)

This year, in the first edition of these awards, the following modalities have been convened:

  • Various recognitions that seek to distinguish initiatives and good practices in the care and improvement of the health status of the university community.
  • An award that aims to recognize end-of-degree or master’s works, doctoral theses or publications whose theme is occupational health. The prize is awarded in two different modalities: prevention of occupational risks in odd years and health promotion in even years.

The “Prevention is everyone’s business, start with yourself!” successful campaign

For its trajectory since 2010, the Inter-center Commission for the Prevention of Occupational Risks of the PRBB received last Monday, April 29, a second prize for the campaign “Prevention is everyone’s business. Start with yourself!”. The award ceremony took place at the Campus Mar of the UPF.

Since it was created, the commission has collaboratively edited the Manual of Preventive Information of the Biomedical Research Park of Barcelona (2010), it has launched the campaign “Prevention is everyone’s business, start with yourself!” (2011), it has implemented a procedure of transfer of biological samples in the PRBB environment and its subsequent revisions (from 2015 to 2018) and it has updated the prevention campaign (from 2018 to 2019), with a great success of follow-up between April 2018 and April 2019.

For their contribution to the success of the prevention campaign, the award also recognised Mònica Rodríguez, from the Department of Communications and Public Relations of the PRBB Consortium, and Roger Ametller, in charge of redesigning the central character of the campaign, “Previ” – created initially by Cristòfol Moreno, of the UPF.

“Working with the members of the group and with the designer, Roger Ametller, has been very easy and stimulating. And I think the final result of all the work done is evident … Everyone in the PRBB knows who Previ is!”

The award was presented by Elena Juanola Pagès, director of the Catalan Institute of Safety and Occupational Health, and was collected by Roger Ametller, Mònica Rodríguez and the representatives of the prevention services of the centers that make up the commission: Sonia Alcázar, from the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG); Samuel Espinal, from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), Lourdes Luque (PRBB Consortium) and Sandra Vial Mora (Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM) Foundation).
