To mark its 20th anniversary, the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) is launching a new series of the podcast in Catalan, ‘La Mare De La Ciència’ (LMDLC). The programme, which usually interviews researchers to share the work carried out at the centres housed within the Park, will, in this special edition, trace the origins and early days of the PRBB and explore its two fundamental pillars: the infrastructure and the community which, together, make research possible.
Biologist and science communicator Núria Coll Bonfill will guide us through the Park’s history and its building. She will be joined by various members of the community, who will share their own experiences and knowledge.
Specifically, the new season consists of three episodes which have already been released and are now available on all platforms:
- ‘De la idea a la realitat: 20 anys al servei de la ciència’ (From idea to reality: 20 years in the service of science) with Jordi Camí and Reimund Fickert (PRBB Consortium), Arcadi Navarro (FPM, MELIS-UPF and IBE) and Jordi Pérez Sánchez (MELIS-UPF). An episode that will trace the Park’s beginnings, from the initial concept to its formalisation, covering the challenges of the construction work and the initial reservations.
- ‘L’esquelet de la ciència: explorant l’edifici’ (The skeleton of science: exploring the building) a piece that highlights the infrastructure and technological platforms underpinning research. It will feature contributions from Laura Aranda and Oliver Blanco (PRBB Consortium), Paulina Carriba (CRG) and Òscar Fornas (MELIS-UPF – CRG) to provide a better understanding of everything this dynamic infrastructure has to offer.
- ‘L’ADN del PRBB: 1.700 històries sota un mateix sostre’ (The DNA of the PRBB: 1.700 stories under one roof) with talks by Elena Bosch (IBE & MELIS-UPF), Laura Forcano (HMRIB), Quim Frigola (EMBL Barcelona), Maxim Glushchenko (PRBB Consortium), Camille Lassale (ISGlobal) and Natalia Soldevila (BBRC-FPM). These talks will allow listeners to discover a community that finds spaces beyond research itself to relax, but also to connect with one another.
This special series joins the three seasons of LMDLC released since 2021, which explore the research carried out at the PRBB’s centres through the eyes of its researchers. These, in turn, form part of the Park’s audio collection, which includes the podcast in Spanish, ‘Absolutos Y Relativos’, and the podcast in English, ‘Science With A View’.
Look for the PRBB podcasts on your favourite platform (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iVoox, Spreaker, Amazon Music, etc.), have a listen and share them!
The fourth series of ‘La Mare De La Ciència’ is a PRBB production:
- Script and narration: Núria Coll
- Editing and production: Inés Fuentes
- Post-production: Teo Grimalt
- Theme tune: Liam Colomer (narration by Elena Lapaz)
