It has been already 9 years since Guadalupe Espadas-Garcia (Tarragona, 1983) arrived at Biomedical Research Park of Barcelona (PRBB). She is a chemist, with a master’s degree and some years of experience in the industry. With the economic crisis, she ended up working in mass spectrometry in the academy, where she had no experience. She started as a lab technician in charge of the sample preparation at the CRG-UPF Proteomics service, where she continues working nowadays. “Most of the time I work on users projects, both internal and external, on the planning of the experiments, data analysis and discussion of results, although I am also implementing a new application”, explains Guadalupe.

The CRG-UPF proteomics service – a mixed unit of the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) and the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences, Pompeu Fabra University (DCEXS-UPF)  – is a team of 10 people with different backgrounds: chemists, biologists, biochemists, physicists, informatic engineers, and even a doctor. They are currently looking for a new member. “We normally eat together at the PRBB restaurant, and once a week we order a delivery”, explains Guadalupe.

With two small children (1 and 3 years old), Guadalupe arrives early and leave on time to pick them up from nursery. “I have taken a reduction of 1h per day – and so has my husband – to be able to organise and combine work and family life”.

Thanks to her job at the proteomics service, she has got to know and many people from all the different centres at the park. In 9 years, and with the service moving from the 3rd floor Hospital side, to the 4th floor Hotel side, Guadalupe has also discovered many areas of the PRBB. She invites us to have breakfast at her favourite little corner of the PRBB: the 4th floor terrace.
