Last Thursday, April 29, the PRBB Award Ceremony was held, which, for the sixteenth consecutive year, rewards the best research work from high school students in the health and life sciences. This award is announced annually by the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) and the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences, Pompeu Fabra University (DCEXS-UPF).
In the 2021 edition, 222 second-year high school students from all over Catalonia presented 201 excellent works that the members of the jury, made up of researchers from the different PRBB centers, evaluated until selecting the five finalist works.
The first prize went to Núria González Cuesta from the Francesc Macià high school in Cornellà del Llobregat. Núria has learned to program from scratch with the Python language. She has created a program that analyzes images of skin spots and diagnoses with very high efficiency (94%) if it is a melanoma or any other non-malignant lesion.
