The lateral line of zebrafish

This image taken from Hernán López-Schier when he has a principal investigator of the Cell and Developmental Biology programme of the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), shows the head of a 1-week old zebrafish (Danio rerio), with the mechanoreceptor cells of the lateral line dyed in orange. The lateral line is a sensory organ that fish have in the form of little holes in their skin, and which allows them to perceive the fluctuations and the water currents.
