Every year, thousands of secondary school and vocational training students in Catalonia spend months formulating questions, searching for evidence, analysing data and drawing conclusions. We know that research work requires a great deal of dedication and effort and is a real challenge for future scientists. That is why, for the past 21 years, the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University and the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) have joined forces to raise the profile of this work and recognise the quality of projects that stand out for their scientific rigour, originality and analytical capacity.
Specifically, the “Premi PRBB” recognises research projects that address topics in the field of life sciences and biomedicine, but which cover a wide range of subjects. For example, in recent years the Award has recognised projects on the conservation of the white-throated dipper, Leigh syndrome and the impact of the pine processionary caterpillar.
If you have submitted your research work in the field of life sciences or biomedicine this academic year, or know someone who has, you have the chance to win up to 1.000€!
One month to submit entries
The call for entries for the 21st PRBB Award opens on January 9 at 9:00 a.m. and will close on February 9 at 11:59 p.m. Until then, all projects related to life sciences and/or biomedicine and carried out by a maximum of three secondary school or vocational training students enrolled in the same educational centre (public, state-subsidised private or private) in Catalonia may be submitted.
If the project is selected as one of the top 5, it will be eligible for one of the following prizes:
- 1st prize of 1.000 €
- 2nd prize of 500 €
- 3rd prize of 350 €
- 4th prize of 200 €
- 5th prize of 200€
On the XXI Premi PRBB website, you will find all the information regarding the rules for participation, dates and procedure for the call for entries. Please read carefully before submitting your work!
A long history
Last year, the award broke a record for participation with 316 entries submitted. But 20 years of the ‘Premi PRBB’ is a long time, and during this period more than 3.200 entries have been received and more than 3.400 students from all over Catalonia have taken part. Of these, around 76% are girls and 24% are boys, most of whom are enrolled in schools in the province of Barcelona (69%). Participation in Girona is 12%, in Tarragona 10% and in Lleida 9%.
