MAR TECH Transfer Academy

A programme of interactive sessions organised by the Hospital del Mar Research Institute aimed at professionals in the innovation ecosystem to find solutions that enable laboratory research to be brought to market.

MAR Tech Transfer Academy is a proposal from the Technology Transfer Unit at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute (HMRIB) that focuses on interactive sessions to explore key aspects of technology transfer, intellectual property, clinical development and commercialisation strategies.

The new programme will introduce research staff to this world with the help of industry experts and entrepreneurs. Participants will acquire tools that will enable them to translate their scientific discoveries into tangible solutions for society that are available on the market.

So far, the following six sessions have been scheduled. They will be held in person at the PRBB and require registration:

  • “How to fundraise and pivot in life sciences? SpliceBio, a case of success“. Charles Darwin room, 28/01/2026
  • How to align your research to the market trends and needs: “Get ready your market appeal”” (Business). Ramón y Cajal room, 17/02/2026
  • How to Protect Your Intellectual and Industrial Property: “Protect your present to lead your future”” (Technology). Ramón y Cajal Room, 24/03/2026
  • How to transfer your research to the market: “From Lab to Market: Spin-offs and Licensing”” (Business). Marie Curie room, 22/04/2026
  • How to bring your research from Bench to Bed: “Clinical Translation in Action”” (Clinical & regulation). Marie Curie room, 27/05/2026
  • How to industrialize your science: “From the wet lab to the patient”” (Technology & regulation). Charles Darwin room, 10/06/2026

The first session will take place on 28 January at 4 p.m. and will feature Miquel Vila-Perelló i Gerard Caelles, CEO and CBO of SpliceBio. It will discuss the company’s success story, emphasising fundraising in the field of life sciences and resilience. Ismael Ávila, head of the Unit, and Pablo Villoslada, director of the HMRIB Neuroscience Programme, will moderate the session.

The programme, which will be free for staff at the HMRIB, Hospital del Mar, PRBB centres, collaborating centres and centres affiliated with the Hospital del Mar node within the ITEMAS network, will cost €200 per session for external attendees.
