Like other underprivileged groups, LGTBIQA+ individuals often face greater challenges when pursuing a scientific career. To break these inequalities and make science more inclusive, the PRISMA association (Association for affective, sexual, and gender diversity in science, technology, and innovation) works to provide safe spaces, raise community visibility, and contribute to a more just society by promoting a perspective that embraces diversity in science, technology, and innovation.
PRISMA was founded in 2019, with its national headquarters at the Pamplona Planetarium. Now, since September 26th, the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) has become the headquarters of the Catalan delegation of the association.
This formal collaboration between PRBB and PRISMA aims to improve the situation of LGTBIQA+ people in Science, Technology, and Innovation at the park and beyond, supporting affective, sexual, and gender equality.
On November 18, international day of LGBTQIA+ in STEM, a presentation event of the Catalan PRISMA headquarters at the PRBB and a meeting between LGBTBIQA+ groups from different research centers in Catalonia will take place at the park. The event, which will begin at 6 p.m., will consist of short presentations, an open discussion on how to turn STEM spaces in Catalonia into more diverse and inclusive environments, and some networking time. You can sign up here!
On November 18 at 6pm there will be an event to present the Catalan PRISMA headquarteres at the PRBB, and a get together between groups LGTBIAQ+ at different research centres in Catalonia.
LGTBIQA+ at PRBB
Several members of the PRBB community are part of the PRISMA board, as well as the LGTBIQA+@PRBB group, which includes more than twenty people. They meet monthly to organize activities, propose ideas, or share experiences.
One of these activities is the cinema forums, where relevant films are screened, followed by relaxed discussions. The upcoming dates are:
- 30/10 – Monster (2003) (Patty Jenkins) – Charles Darwin room
- 26/11 – Una mujer fantástica (Sebastián Lelio) – Marie Curie room
