Elena Casacuberta is a Principal Investigator at the Institute for Evolutionary Biology (IBE: CSIC-UPF). Bachelor in Biochemistry, PhD in Biology, Postdoc at MIT. CSIC tenured scientist since 2008. Always interested in the evolution of the eukaryote genome, she has traveled from transposable elements in animals and plants to protists where, together with Iñaki Ruiz-Trillo, she is working on understanding the origin of animals.
