De fet, <strong>els lleons consten com a vulnerables<\/strong> tant per la\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iucnredlist.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Llista Vermella de la\u00a0<em>International Union for Conservation of Nature<\/em> (IUCN)<\/strong><\/a>, com per la\u00a0<strong>Llei d&#8217;Esp\u00e8cies en Perill d&#8217;Extinci\u00f3 dels<\/strong> <strong>EUA<\/strong>. Tot i aix\u00f2, fins a dia d&#8217;avui no s&#8217;havia estudiat en profunditat la hist\u00f2ria evolutiva d&#8217;aquesta esp\u00e8cie, i tampoc les possibles causes de les extincions d&#8217;algunes de les poblacions de lleons al llarg de la hist\u00f2ria.<\/p>\n<p>Ara, personal investigador de l&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibe.upf-csic.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institut de Biologia Evolutiva (IBE: CSIC-UPF)<\/a>\u00a0i del\u00a0<em>GLOBE Institute<\/em>, de la Universitat de Copenhaguen, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibe.upf-csic.es\/home\/-\/asset_publisher\/T2caeLMECPvW\/content\/id\/234752361\/maximized\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">han reconstru\u00eft la complexa hist\u00f2ria evolutiva del lle\u00f3<\/a>. Han <strong>combinat l&#8217;an\u00e0lisi gen\u00f2mica d&#8217;exemplars de lle\u00f3 extints<\/strong> (incloent-hi lleons de les cavernes de fa 30.000 anys) <strong>i moderns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Els resultats obtinguts han sigut els seg\u00fcents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Els <strong>lleons moderns van compartir un ancestre com\u00fa amb el lle\u00f3 de les cavernes<\/strong> fa m\u00e9s de 500.000 anys.
