Per\u00f2 tot t\u00e9 un l\u00edmit, i el de l\u2019ADN antic, \u00e9s uns<\/span><b> 400.000 anys<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0(amb l&#8217;excepci\u00f3 d&#8217;unes restes de cavall trobades a Sib\u00e8ria de fa 700.000 anys). En mostres m\u00e9s antigues, l\u2019anomenada \u2018mol\u00e8cula de la vida\u2019 est\u00e0 massa degradada i no \u00e9s possible extreure\u2019n informaci\u00f3. Per aix\u00f2, l\u2019estudi de f\u00f2ssils de m\u00e9s de 400.000 anys s\u2019havia limitat fins ara a la seva anatomia, comparant mides, formes i extrapolant a partir d\u2019estudis biomec\u00e0nics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ara, per\u00f2, equips de recerca d\u2019Espanya, Dinamarca i Xina, ha fet un salt qualitatiu i, utilitzant la <\/span><b>paleoprote\u00f2mica <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; l\u2019estudi de prote\u00efnes antigues &#8211; han pogut <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibe.upf-csic.es\/home\/-\/asset_publisher\/T2caeLMECPvW\/content\/id\/230350763\/maximized#.XdJ0gldKjIU\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desentrellar els misteris moleculars d\u2019un f\u00f2ssil de m\u00e9s de <\/span><b>2 milions d\u2019anys<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>La informaci\u00f3 molecular m\u00e9s antiga fins ara<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Es tracta d\u2019un molar de <\/span><strong><i>Gigantopithecus blacki\u00a0<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>un primat extinct<\/strong> del qual nom\u00e9s queden algunes dents i mand\u00edbules fossilitzades. Des que es van descobrir les primeres restes d\u2019aquest simi cap als anys 30, els cient\u00edfics s\u2019han basat en la seva morfologia per hipotetitzar que <strong>era herb\u00edvor, feia fins a tres metres d\u2019al\u00e7ada, pesava 500 kg i havia viscut als boscos de l&#8217;actual sud-est asi\u00e0tic fins fa uns 300.000 anys<\/strong>. En el que no es posaven d\u2019acord els experts era on havien de colocar-lo en l\u2019arbre evolutiu; es tractava d\u2019un hom\u00ednid molt arcaic, o pertanyia al llinatge dels simis?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>La paleoprote\u00f2mica, una &#8216;m\u00e0quina del temps&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Els investigadors, co-dirigits per <a href=\"http:\/\/biologiaevolutiva.org\/tmarques\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom\u00e0s Marqu\u00e9s-Bonet<\/a> a l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibe.upf-csic.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institut de Biologia Evolutiva (IBE: CSIC-UPF)<\/a>, Enrico Cappellini al Globe Institute a la Universitat de Copenhaguen, i Wei Wang a la Shandong University a Qingdao, Xina, van extraure <strong>uns miligrams d\u2019esmalt de la dent<\/strong> trobada a una cova de Chuifeng, a la Xina. En seq\u00fcenciar-ho <strong>van recuperar uns 500 amino\u00e0cids<\/strong> &#8211; les unitats b\u00e0siques de les prote\u00efnes &#8211; fossilitzats. Comparant aquestes seq\u00fc\u00e8ncies amb les prote\u00efnes de l&#8217;esmalt dentari presents a les bases de dades van determinar <strong>que pertanyien a 6 prote\u00efnes<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Un cop identificades aquestes 6 prote\u00efnes del <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gigantopithecus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <strong>les van comparar amb les mateixes prote\u00efnes en hom\u00ednids i simis<\/strong>. Les difer\u00e8ncies d\u2019amino\u00e0cids d\u2019una mateixa prote\u00efna entre diferents esp\u00e8cies permeten <strong>calcular quant fa que les esp\u00e8cies van divergir<\/strong>.
